Reflection: Diversity and Inclusivity – A LOVE Installation in The Little City

The City of Falls Church’s newest art installation, Reflection: Diversity and Inclusivity, brings the spirit of “Virginia is for Lovers” to the heart of The Little City. Created to honor the City’s history, democratic values, and welcoming community, the sculpture is both a striking public artwork and a symbol of unity. The installation also joins the statewide collection of LOVEworks art pieces across Virginia, connecting Falls Church to a larger story of creativity and community found throughout the Commonwealth.

Designed by Local Talent

Employee artist Ripal Patel envisioned the piece as an invitation for all to see themselves reflected in the City’s shared identity. The “O,” illustrated in collaboration with local watercolor artist Bill Abel, depicts people and places representing diversity. The “L,” “V,” and “E” are crafted from polished reflective steel, symbolizing inclusivity and allowing every viewer to become part of the artwork.

Where the Community Comes Together

Located at 300 Park Avenue, between City Hall and the Cherry Hill Farmhouse, the LOVE sculpture anchors a gathering space surrounded by year-round community events, including the weekly Farmers’ Market and seasonal festivals. Its location was intentionally chosen as the crossroads of residents, businesses, and visitors so that the installation will serve as a symbol of unity and belonging.

A Shared Vision

“The LOVE Sculpture, Reflection: Diversity and Inclusivity, with its unique interactive mirror, is a meaningful and fitting symbol for our City,” said City Manager Wyatt Shields. “The City of Falls Church has long been known as a welcoming community with a big heart, and this artwork perfectly captures that spirit.”

The installation was approved by the City Council in May 2025, following an internal design review, which reinforced Falls Church’s creative, community-driven approach to public art.

Additional project partners include:

  • Composition Systems Inc., vinyl “O” art wrap
  • Colours Imaging, Inc., digitizer of “O” original artwork
  • Department of Public Works Operations, sculpture base
  • DS Metal Works, Inc., letter metal fabricator
  • Falls Church Art & Frame, preserving original concept artwork
